Mercury-Argon Calibration Source
A Hg(Ar) lamp is used for calibrate spectrometers, in my case in the visible spectrum.
My spectrometer is a crossed Czerny-Turner design, built by B&W Tek (Model BTC-110S). I'm going to use it as a detector for a analyzer design I'm planning to build.
Mercury emission lines are <600 nm. Argon emission lines are >600 nm, and are shown here on an exaggerated amplitude scale.
This calibration source is made of parts easily found on the Web. If you are going to buy a source you have to pay 5-600$. I made this for abot 30$.
The PSU is a simple CCFL driver, and a lamp is available on the web.
Inside you can see the tube driver and the Hg(Ar) lamp.
Here is a photo of my spectrograph soft. The X-axis is pixels, and not Nm. A calibration is needed before the scale will fit.
